True beauty without the Photoshop. Produced and shot entirely in Paris, the Relook Beauty Series is a video collection of beauty looks for make-up and hair styling. The concept behind this series is to seek out the beauty talent responsible for creating the stunning beauty looks for the top fashion shows and ad campaigns (i.e. Chanel, Hermes, Versace, L'Oreal). All year round, these make-up artists are creating the imagery for the content and covers of magazines such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Elle and L'Officiel. After an extensive casting process of make-up artists and hair stylists working in Paris, we selected the first Relook Beauty Team. We worked with these hair stylists and make-up artists, to create stylish and fashionable looks that can be recreated at home by anyone with just a little time and practice. Many of the looks are the very same or toned down versions of the looks created for major fashion shows in Paris.
The idea for this project came from witnessing the transformation of the girls backstage at a fashion shows during Fashion Week. When the models arrive backstage, they look like most girls you would see on the street. Then after 20 minutes of hair styling and make-up, you would be amazed to think these were the same girls that just walked in just a short time ago. It then became our mission to take the beauty process going on behind the scenes of fashion shows, and make the techniques available and understandable to women at home.
Every hair stylist and make-up artist has their own individual approach and style in what they do. Even a simple smoky eye effect done by different make-up artists will look different from each other. To properly capture the technique and style of each hair stylist and make-up artists, we show the look in real time with nothing edited out. Also, we got in a close as we could with several high definition cameras so you can see the details you need to be able to recreate every look. We purposely did not show the products that were used in these beauty sessions because the main point of these tutorials is not to sell a specific make-up or hair product. These looks aren’t based upon what mascara or eye pencil you need to use, you just need to know you need a black mascara or an eye brow pencil. We will be publishing video guides for free on this website on how to choose the make-up, hair product and what tool you need in the very near future. Also, we wanted these looks for hair and make-up to be practical for everyday use. The make-up artists came up with looks that didn’t require more make-up than could fit in the average make-up bag in your purse. More important was to work with a particular color palette and have the everyday basics like mascara and black eyeliner. These make-up artists show first hand how they create looks for the runway or for print campaigns by using make-up secrets and experience rather than what they have purchased. The hair stylists also created looks that show how they can create fast simple yet amazing hair style with just basic tools like hair spray, some hair clips and a curling iron.
Our mission for the Relook Beauty Series is to provide a wealth of beauty ideas that will inspire women to try new looks for their hair and make-up. Modern times have made our culture much more androgynous than in decades past, and that is why many of these looks are modern interpretations of vintage hair and make-up looks.
We would like to see women reinvent and rediscover the drama and fantasy that can play a part of attracting the opposite sex. We wish you luck using these beauty tutorials and remember to take your time, and not be afraid to make mistakes and try again until you are happy.
